A New Chapter Begins: Alchemy Acquires Freediving Club Greece

Author: Nick Pelios

There are moments in the life of a sport when change does not arrive through spectacle or noise, but through quiet, deliberate decisions that shape the future in lasting ways. This is one of those moments.

Alchemy is proud to announce the acquisition of Freediving Club Greece, one of Europe’s most recognized depth training bases. For years, this location has served as a meeting point for divers from around the world, offering a reliable environment for courses, camps, and serious progression. Many athletes have taken their first steps toward depth here. Others have refined advanced techniques or prepared for competitions in these waters.

Today, that story continues under new ownership and with a renewed vision.

At present, the center is undergoing a massive refurbishment. Because of the scale of this transformation, bookings are not available yet. Reservations will open on May 1, which is also the date when the renewed Alchemy Freediving Center will officially begin operations.

This is not simply a reopening. It is a reinvention.

What Freediving Club Greece Represented

Freediving Club Greece, based in Kalamata in the southern Peloponnese, has long held a respected position within the European freediving landscape. Its value was never based on marketing claims or temporary trends. Instead, it grew steadily through years of consistent training operations and word of mouth among divers who understood the importance of the environment.

The geographical advantages of the area played a central role in building this reputation. Deep water can be reached within minutes by boat, allowing divers to maximize time in the water rather than spending long hours in transit. Visibility is often exceptional, offering clarity and confidence during descent and ascent. Currents are virtually non existent in the primary training zones, which supports controlled depth sessions and reduces unnecessary physical and psychological strain.

These conditions made Kalamata attractive not only to beginners looking for structured learning, but also to experienced freedivers seeking a dependable base for long term progression. Workshops, instructor programs, equalization training, and performance oriented depth camps have all taken place here over the years. International safety teams and athletes have worked on these lines. Personal bests have been set. Careers in freediving have been shaped.

Freediving Club Greece became known as a place where training could happen day after day without compromise.

Why Alchemy Chose to Invest

Alchemy’s involvement in freediving has never been limited to manufacturing equipment. The brand has consistently supported athletes, competitions, environmental initiatives, and educational efforts aimed at strengthening the sport as a whole.

Acquiring Freediving Club Greece represents a natural evolution of that commitment.

Rather than building a new facility from zero, Alchemy chose to invest in a location that already carried meaning and credibility. The intention is not to erase what existed, but to elevate it. To preserve the core advantages of the site while introducing higher operational standards, modern safety systems, and a clearer performance driven philosophy.

This move also reflects a broader understanding of the needs of European freedivers. Iconic depth destinations such as Dahab or Dominica offer extraordinary conditions, but they often require significant travel time, planning, and financial resources. Kalamata provides a different model. It is accessible within a few hours from most major European cities. This proximity makes consistent training realistic, allowing athletes to return multiple times within a season rather than relying on a single intensive trip.

Alchemy sees the renewed center as a hub. A place where beginners can discover the sport in a structured way, where instructors can refine their teaching practice, and where elite divers can pursue ambitious depth goals within a safe and controlled framework.

A Massive Transformation Underway

The reason bookings are currently closed is simple. The scale of the refurbishment is substantial.

Every aspect of the center is being reconsidered and upgraded. Safety infrastructure is being expanded. Operational procedures are being redesigned. Training logistics are being refined to support smoother daily flow and stronger supervision. Equipment systems are being modernized to reflect the demands of contemporary depth training.

Freediving is often portrayed as a minimalistic discipline defined by breath and silence. In reality, serious training environments depend on complex coordination behind the scenes. Line management, diver tracking, recovery readiness, surface communication, and emergency response planning all play a role in creating conditions where progression can happen responsibly.

Alchemy is investing heavily to ensure that the renewed center reflects this level of professionalism. The goal is to create a space that feels calm, precise, and purpose built. A place where divers can focus entirely on their performance, learning, and internal experience without distraction or uncertainty.

Bookings Open May 1

Because of the ongoing refurbishment, it is not possible to accept reservations at this stage.

Bookings for courses, training programs, and depth camps will open on May 1, which is also the official opening date of the Alchemy Freediving Center. From that moment, divers will be able to secure their training slots and begin planning their visits for the season ahead.

Availability will be structured carefully. The focus will remain on quality, safety, and meaningful progression rather than high volume scheduling.

Whether someone is approaching freediving for the first time or returning to refine advanced techniques such as mouthfill, monofin efficiency, or competition preparation strategies, the renewed center is being designed to support that journey.

Looking Toward the Future

Freediving is evolving rapidly. Athletes are reaching new depths. Training knowledge is becoming more sophisticated. Awareness around sustainability and responsible ocean interaction is growing. In this environment, dedicated training bases play an increasingly important role.

They shape how divers learn. They influence how safety culture develops. They determine whether progression feels chaotic or structured.

By acquiring and transforming Freediving Club Greece, Alchemy is making a long term commitment to the future of the sport. Not only through products, but through physical infrastructure and educational leadership.

The reopening on May 1 is therefore more than a logistical milestone. It represents the beginning of a new chapter for a location that has already contributed significantly to European freediving.

For many divers, it may also mark the beginning of their own next phase.
